Gym Lingo - Translated & Explained

Going to a new gym is scary all on it's own for some people while others find it difficult just to gather up the motivation for a workout. Set your mind at ease knowing that this blog post is here to help lessen the intensity of a visit to the gym. What about all those crazy words and phrases the 'regulars' are using? Some may barely understand sentences they put together (and that doesn't include all the moaning & groaning)! Sets - Group of exercises. For example, if you do 10 crunches that's 1 set. Reps - When you perform an exercise. For example, you lift a dumbbell up for a bicep curl and then lower it; that's 1 rep. Rest Period - The time in between sets. This can be strategically timed to yield different physical results. For example, a higher amount of weight and a longer rest period will yield different results than a higher amount of weight and a shorter rest period. WELCOME BACK!!

I am back from my hiatus! I want to apologize for such a long break in between posts. I have been moving across the east coast and relocating has been a larger ordeal that I initially thought it would be. Good News: I will continue posting & updating regularly. Even Better News: I am embarking on a serious training regimen to prepare for fitness/figure competitions and will document my training, experiences, nutrition etc on this blog for all those interested. Expect more to come very soon!

Gym Germ Tips

Whether we like to address it or not, gyms are not always the cleanest place. People are pushing their bodies to the limits and there is a lot of sweat to show for it. Gyms can be a breeding ground for germs, diseases and infections. This is not meant to scare anyone away from the gym, but more so to educate on ways to avoid the funk. Tip #1 - Use antibacterial lotion often in addition to washing your hands with soap & water. Your gym should have antibacterial lotion stations throughout the gym to use before and after a workout. Tip #2 - Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth and ears during your workout. These areas have tissue that can be susceptible to infections rather easily. Take care to avoid spreading germs to these areas. Tip #3 - Maintain personal space. A sneeze can travel up to 6 feet away! Be sure to give those around you space to workout as well as keeping yourself enough personal space. Tip #4 - Bring your own workout towel. Using the gym towels is a convenience and t...
